This evening, I was scheduled to be in discussion with the author, Tony Peake (North Facing), at the Owl Bookshop in Kentish Town, London. Like all other book events, this one had to be cancelled/postponed—in fact, Tony was one of the poor souls who succumbed early to COVID-19 before all the strictures were in place.
It was three years ago this month that I spent three days in London doing research for Old New Worlds in the archives of SOAS (the School of Oriental and African Studies) at the University of London in Bloomsbury. My plan for the Owl event had been to read from Chapter Twenty-Five, where I write about this precious time in London. And so, in lieu of being there for the actual event, I offer another virtual audio reading here.
Let us imagine ourselves at the Owl in London! Thank you for listening.
