The Baltimore Symphony’s Jonathon Heyward

We are reveling in Jonathon Heyward’s Music Directorship of the BSO. His thoughtful programming is inventive and inclusive, and the orchestra clearly loves working with him. Tonight, we are going down to The Clarice at the University of Maryland to hear him conduct the orchestra in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 featuring soprano Julia Bullock in the finale. Heyward and Bullock also collaborate on Jessie Montgomery’s Five Freedom Songs. I was the lucky one who interviewed Jonathon when he made his BSO debut in March 2022, and it was such a pleasure to catch up with him again by phone about this program.
